Wishing everybody a happy new year, my intention today is to share my experiences regarding gambling in a casino.

Having worked in a casino as a croupier for almost 2 years now, had seen all the ups and downs of players from all backgrounds. But one thing is for sure, I can confidently say no one has actually won the casino. Why? Because today they win, tommorrow they come back and lose. Or maybe tommorrow they won again, but somehow.. within a week or so, their winnings would be back into the casino's pocket, together with their bankroll.

I am very sad to see fellow Singaporeans gambling their money and lives away, their money could be better used for other purposes. Having said that, I would like to conclude my thread with a simple advice :

Please treat gambling as an entertainment, not a tool to make money. You are expected to lose and you will lose because of the staggering odds against you.

I will repost the 2 threads which I posted in the past because I believe they are sound advice

First of all, please do not believe that you will make a living from the casino, because you will not. The casino is built on statistics and odds, and it is built for YOU to lose your money over a long run.
There are no games that are 50/50, something will always bring an edge to the house/casino.

If you would like to increase your chances, stick to games with a low house edge.

The best games in our casinos that offers that are 1) Blackjack , 2) Pontoon , 3) Baccarat.

Learn the basic strategy to increase your chance in winning for Blackjack/Pontoon, they are different games, thus their basic strategy differs. As for Baccarat, there are no skills involved, just pure luck. There are no such things as a 'dragon' or a trend, its just pure coincedence. Flip a coin 1000 times, and believe me, a so called 'dragon' will come out eventually. Does it mean the next flip will come up heads/tails as well ?

To conclude, there are a few suggestions I would like to end off with.

1) Casino is for entertainment purposes, for you to mingle, make friends , have a few drinks and have fun. Do not chase your losses, take your loss as a price for entertainment.

2) Leave when you are not having fun anymore, even if you win or lose.

3) Before you start gambling, determine what you can safely afford to lose. Stick to your limits and please dont gamble your money needed for necessities, its simply not worth the risk.

4) This is for players who would just like to have a quick win/lose, Take for instance you have a $600 bankroll, put 1/3($200) of it on the banker bet in baccarat. If that wins, walk away. If that loses, put your remaining 2/3($400) of it on the banker again, if that wins, walk away. In this way, you have a 75% chance of winning $200 , or a 25% chance of losing $600.

5) The longer you play, the higher chances you lose. Because the house edge is always slowly eating your money, just that u might not realise it. The best bet is just to make a single bet or the bet i mentioned above. But there's no fun to it i suppose. Gamblers simply love to gamble, they will not make 1 or 2 bets and walk away, thus most of them ends up losing.

6) Walking away when you are winning, there are no limits to how much u can win from the casino, but there's a limit to how much you can lose. What do I mean by that ?
Take for instance you brought $1000, and u are up $7000. At this moment , you have a choice. U can walk away a winner of $6000, or you can try to win more. How much more I would like to ask? Do you want to win $100000 before you are ready to leave ?

Imagine a graph, the graph will always go up and down, i.e winning/losing. There's no limit to how high the graph can go, because the casino has all the money they have to gamble AGAINST you, but there's a limit to how low the graph can go(your bankroll).

To further illustrate my point, take for instance you came with a cool $1 million SGD . All u wanted was to win $1000, is it very simple? Of course. But lets say u came with a $1000 SGD, the casino has BILLIONS to gamble against you, isn't it simple to win that $1000 from you if u do not set a limit?

The casino isnt afraid to let you win, they are afraid you will not come back . Because they know, they will win back the money when u do

Why the casinos will always win ? Simply because they have a edge.

1) Baccarat - 5% tax on Banker, or at Non-Commission Baccarat 50% tax on winning 6. Card rules steer to Banker's edge, so u cannot bet on Player and hope to have a 50-50 chance. How to win? Play once on banker, and leave if u win. That's how to win. AND DO NOT COME BACK AGAIN. If lose how? Its your luck really.

2) Blackjack/Pontoon- House gets to act last. We take your money if u bust. But if banker bust, we do not refund you your money. Really 50-50 meh?

3) Sic-Bo . Big/Small/Odd/Even seems 50-50 ? Any triple comes up and we will ''gob'' your bets.

4) Roulette- Special green 0 , your enemy. 37 numbers on the wheel(including 0) and we pay out 35 to 1 if u win, do the maths.

5) Stud Poker - We only qualify if we have Ace/King . So what if u get straight/flush or higher? We only pay your ante. Progressive jackpots payouts? Its patron's money. Take for instance $2 for 1 credit, we only credit $1.5 into the jackpot meter, and $0.5 into our pockets.

6) Texas Hold-em bonus - We pay out ante only on straight or higher, and eat your ante/bets if u lose.

7) Three-Pictures - Another version of Baccarat, but even sillier, there's no card rules and we still eat 50% if u win on 6, despite having no advantage at all.

8) Money wheel - Didnt count the exact number of partitions there are on the wheel, but trust me, it will never be player's advantage.

9) Slot machines- machines designed to take in dollars and pay out in cents.

My friends, do not believe u can earn a steady income in a casino. We build the casinos, we set the rules, we pay thousands of employees wages. We provide you free beverages, free memberships to earn points. There's no free lunch in this world, your entertainment comes at your own cost.

I m not saying do not come into a casino, treat casinos as entertainment, dont play as if tommorrow the casino will close. Make friends with each other, your visits will be more fun for us dealers and for yourselves.

Play responsibly , no one ever makes a living from gambling in a casino. You win today, can you win again tomorrow? Can you win every single time? All it takes is one time to lose, and u try to recover back and human's weakness and greed takes over.

For Blackjack, rather than you let the House eat 100%, consider the option of surrendering 50% first if the cards are lousy (e.g. 14, 15 & 16) and save the other 50% to fight again in the next round. This is not applicable when the House has an ACE.

Gamblers only lose to their own greed, not the house.
Cardcounting is no longer useful with the shuffling machine.

If you can't afford to lose, don't gamble.

Hi tassiengo, three cards poker works in the same way as most of the other casino games - house gets to act last. The house edge lies in the rule that if the player folds he loses, even if the dealer doesn’t qualify

Good and useful advice, especially on the part to treat gambling as entertainment rather than to create an iron rice bowl from it.

Thanks for the advice. It's not totally new to me, I mean.. this is my life credo. Though never thought this is how it sounds.

Absolutely right, that gambling should be just an entertainment. Bookmakers just take advantage of the human greed and weakness to make money for them. Basically I'd compare them with drug dealers.

But of gambling is alright as long as it's a hobby. But never a way to make money.
Amen.

you can lose because of greed, not because the house is cheating you. in a game, there will always be a small chance that you will lose. having 2 a's doesn't mean you should go all in all the time, you should try to weigh the situation and make the most out of it. if you think going all in is the best decision, then go, but if you go all in the moment you saw the 2 a's, then you're in for a bad casino career my friend.(although none of us should make it a career, i just have no words for it)

Dont gamble at casino.. sure lose. Cuz there's a system in place for casions to rake in all your cash. Maybe 1000people who gamble at casinos, only 10 - 20 people will really make a profit if they are disclipined enough.
